The Strategy
The site plan approach became critical to the maintenance of acceptable grades and cross slopes necessary for a senior population. Additionally, the four-story main building had to be designed within the 45-foot height limitation dictated by the master planned community zoning restrictions. The independent living units required minimum ceiling heights of nine feet, pitched tile roofs were necessitated by the Mediterranean architecture, and two-story spaces and bay size flexibility were essential in public spaces.
The impressive results
This 735,650 square foot, four-story, $270 million project, includes 203 independent living units, 67 single family villas along with 60 unit licensed assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing beds along with extensive landscape features and an 18-hole championship putting course. Vi at Silverstone captures the essence of Tuscan “Architecture of the Sun,” a distinctive architectural style, featuring spacious courtyards, weaving walkways, and use of stone in design and landscaping, reflecting a Mediterranean feel while artistically incorporating the natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert, and complementing other planned communities and amenities in the area. The project received a RED Award in 2011 as the best multi-family development.
